Ethan's 3 months...

Holy smokes. Is it just me or has time flown by? Ethan is 3 months old now. Starting to smile more and cry less. Yes I know in my last post I said he didn't cry. I did it to myself I guess, but ya he was sure whiney. He's starting to chunk up which I love. I'm staying about the same. I gave away my maternity clothes and then had to ask for them back because none of my clothes fit. Some days I'm gung ho about losing weight and some days I just want to eat a freaking cupcake. I need to give myself more time and credit. I was retarded and signed up for weight watchers when he was a week old. I realized I need more time than that for sure. I cancelled it when he was 8 weeks. I am going to wait until he's sleeping through the night before I try anything too crazy. People ask how it is with 4...I don't think it's 4 that's the hard number, I think I forgot just how demanding a baby is. I am breastfeeding every 3 hours for like 30-40 min. It wears you out. And then there's people that say if you have 3 kids you can have 100. I'm going to call BS on that one. Every pregnancy and kid has been harder than the last because you have more kids to take care of! So I don't believe that to be true. I do love being a mother and I am so thankful to have these awesome kids. I am also thankful to be done! :) I mailed out announcements so we are not doing Christmas cards this year. Hope everyone is doing well and has a Merry Christmas! Seriously, isn't he cute though?!

He's Here!

Ethan Scott Nicolaysen. Born 09/10/2014. He was 5 weeks early but weighed 7 lbs! We are so happy he is here and that I am not pregnant anymore! Whoop Whoop! He is so cute and such a joy. Eats, sleeps and poops. I think he's cried once or twice, which makes me happy. ;) I'm actually recovering very well. Stephen took a week off to help. We had a ton of meals brought in by family and friends. I have a teenager that I've hired to clean for me once a week (best investment ever!) So I don't have to stress out about the house being a disaster. Health wise I feel great. Ethan was in the NICU for 2 days but got to come home with me. Then we had a jaundice mess but that's over and we are back to hanging out in our pajamas all day. We sure do love him. Katelyn always wants to hold him. Preston is interested when he sees him. Holden gets super excited when he's awake and cranky when he won't wake up with him yelling, "Baby wake up". He doesn't seem to have jealousy issues although he did start whining when he asked for something today and saw that I was about to nurse. Lol. Stephen helped deliver him and was excited to go back to work, he's almost as tired as I am. Almost. We feel like our family is complete and are so happy to be blessed with the opportunity to raise these kids. They are all so sweet and funny when they aren't driving us nuts. I absolutely love having a baby around, that's the part I am going to have a hard time with. I love this phase. Anyways, just wanted to share the good news.

Baby #4 And Their Ain't No More....

We're doing it...having another baby. Most of you probably already know this news since I'm 33 weeks along, but for some of you it might be new information. We are having another boy. We are thinking the name will be Ethan Scott. Scott was my brother Josh's middle name, he past away 15 years ago.  I was a bit bummed for like a day or two that it wasn't another girl. I quickly got over it, I'm excited now. My boys are so sweet and cuddly. This will be our last child, and I feel very good about it. With Holden I thought we were done but I had some remorse about  the thought of not having another child. It's gone, phew. I am super excited to have another infant and go through the whole birthing experience but I don't feel the need to do it again. I'm due October 13th, but hopefully will be 2 weeks early like I was with Katelyn and Holden.

We have an annual zoo pass and a pass to the aquarium, that we have been taking advantage of. This summer I have been just hanging out with the kids. I got off facebook in April and have just been living my life. Normally I want a friend to come with me every time I take my kids out, but I have been more than ok with just going by myself. We've done the $1 summer movies, kids bowl free, swimming at our neighborhood pool, and going to parks. It's been a full, busy summer and I am glad it's coming to an end. It has been very hard in the last couple of weeks to be pregnant with all the kids at home.  I have insisted that I get a nap every afternoon, so I lay with Holden in my bed and have Katelyn and Preston watch a Disney show downstairs. I give them plenty of snacks and set the alarm so they won't answer the door. Love my alarm btw. We have had house and car break ins in our neighborhood a lot this summer. And get this, bums sleeping in people's back yards. I would freak out.

Katelyn will be starting 3rd grade this year and is also starting to take piano lessons.  She donated 9 inches of her hair to make wigs for kids with cancer. She loves to sing and is pretty good at it too. She is still sassy but also has a very sweet and tender side that appears every so often. We love to have her in our family. Stephen built her a doll house for her birthday that is absolutely beautiful and was way more work than we thought it would be. Hopefully it will last for years. She turns 8 on August 25th and will be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in September.

Preston will be starting kindergarten this year and he is so excited. He is my rules kid and likes to know what is going on in advance at all times so we have had several discussions on how many days until school starts, what its going to be like, where the bathrooms are, etc. He has afternoon kindergarten and this year the bus will pick him up from our home! Mom is excited about that!  He was doing gymnastics, all the kids were last year, but I decided to give myself a year off with the new baby coming.

Holden, my oh my. He's huge still. No one can believe that he's only 2 1/2. He's starting to talk and doesn't stop. Every minute, "Where are we going Mom? What are you doing Mom? Mom, Mom, Mom." He is a momma's boy. He still wants to be carried everywhere even though he is almost 40 pounds, and he's so cute that I have a hard time telling him no. He seriously makes the whole family laugh. He is in a big boy bed, but still has a binki and is freaked out by the idea of wearing underwear. He thinks it's hilarious to slap my belly and doesn't think there's a baby in my belly, there is one in his.

Stephen and I just celebrated our 10 year anniversary! We went to Ruth's Chris for dinner and went to the Anniversary Inn for a night. He is seriously my best friend. He makes me laugh so much and I love at the end of the day we talk to each other about the good and bad things that happened. He is the unconditional love and support system that I never had. I love him very much. Oh and he's hot.
Well that about covers it. Hope all is well with friends and family that we don't see very much. I updated pictures on the side of our family. No belly shots, no one wants to see that. Lol.

Melaleuca

I recently signed up with Melaleuca and have loved every minute of it. I have earned $1,000 just by referring my close friends and a Kindle Fire. I have also converted my home to products that are safe for me and my family. I feel so good knowing that I am educated on what I am using and how it will impact my home. I have been working hard on a blog so if you're curious about the company, check out my blog. If you're super cool, you can follow it too! And if anyone would like an overview, I would be more than happy to tell you about this great company and how it can improve your life as well.

Happenings...

I don't have any great stories about Easter Sunday but we did get some cute pics of the kids so I figured that should be an update.

Stephen:  Has been working hard visiting every restaurant and working overnight there to replace their store registers. He's been leaving on Sunday's and coming home on Thursday's for the last 6 weeks. He is exhausted, and so am I. It ends this week so we are all excited to get back to normal life. He is the secretary of the Elder's Quorum in our ward. He is the best dad and loves to play with the kids. He also takes me out once a week for a much needed date. I love him so much. He is so handsome to me. Oh the other day Katelyn annoyingly asked when we were going to stop dating each other. I hope not for a long time! :)

Kendra:  Got released from being the Secretary of the Primary because I thought I didn't have a testimony and felt like a fraud for being in some what of a leadership position. Literally a week later, got my answer that I've been looking for. Oh well. :) I have been working out 3+ days a week at the YMCA and trying to get my bum in shape. I like how I feel when I work out and I have been liking how I look also. I have figured out that there is no magic pill to make you skinny. You just have to work hard and eat healthy. It also has been taking longer than I'd like, but I am not going to starve myself, and I think I have a healthy rate of loss so the weight will stay off. We also have decided that we kinda have a grip on three kids and maybe our family isn't quite complete. We are thinking we want one more child. THIS IS NOT AN ANNOUNCEMENT! :) I have been having lunch dates with friends and driving the kids too and fro. Also I spend a lot of time cleaning my house, but I enjoy it and I like my house clean, so to me it's worth it. I was recently in the Ten Virgins play for our ward and we practiced so hard and did a great job as a group that they have asked us to do it for the Stake. So that is coming up in April. Also, my birthday is in 2 weeks. I don't know what it is about my birthday, but I freaking love it. I love that I get to spend money on whatever I want and just have fun.

Katelyn:  Is 6 1/2 now and such a fire cracker. Some times she is the sweetest thing and sometimes she just blows up. She is doing really well in school and enjoys being there. She is really good at reading and math. The other Sunday she gave a talk on resurrection and she talked about my brother Josh dying and how he will be resurrected. When she read it to me I started crying. I told her I was crying 1. Because I felt the spirit 2. Because I miss Josh 3. Because she is READING! Big words too! I am so proud of her, she is blossoming into such a lovely young lady. She takes Ballet once a week and soon will start Soccer on Saturdays and swim lessons on Tuesday's and Thursdays. We have a pool in our neighborhood and last summer the kids swam all over the place and this winter they lost their confidence. So we are trying to rebuild it before the summer hits.

Preston:  Is 4 1/2 now and such a little joy. He is so handsome. He got new glasses about 6 months ago. We took the rest of the family in and last minute decided to have him checked out. Turns out he wasn't seeing out of one eye. He had a lazy eye but no one knew it because his eye wasn't crossing. He also has a stigmatism and I was told that he will have to wear glasses the rest of his life. Good thing he's so freaking cute in them. He is in preschool and learning a lot. The first half of the year I had him in one that was basically like a day care where they played for an hour and then watched shows and ate snacks. In just 2 months, he has learned letters, numbers, and is beginning to write his name. He loves to go to "fun club" at the YMCA and will start soccer and swim lessons when Katelyn does.

Holden:  Sweet, sweet Holden. Oh this boy brings me so much joy. He is literally the happiest kid I have ever seen. He is so chill most of the time. He doesn't have a nap schedule because he just goes with the flow of what I am doing for the day. Has slept 12 hours since he was about 4 months old. He is a tank, literally. He weights 30 pounds. He is in the 90% for weight and 70% for height. His feet are as big as Katelyn's when she was 2 1/2. He is 15 months now and just took his first independent steps on Saturday. He walks along furniture and with you, crawls like crazy, and goes up and down the stairs all by himself. He'll get it in time, I'm not too worried about him.

So that's what's been going on. Life is good and busy. I got off of facebook for a while because I felt like it was creating a false sense of friendship. You think you are closer to people than you actually are because you get the details of their lives. It's been interesting to see who I've hung out with since I've gotten off. Life is good. I was telling an old friend that even if I could have imagined the best scenario for how my life was going to turn out, it is better than that. I am one lucky girl.

Happy Anniversary

So we've been married 8 years today. We got married civilly and then a year later in the temple. Stephen asked me one year which one we should celebrate, I told him our actual wedding date. It may not be valid to some, but that was the day I vowed to God that I would love Stephen forever. We've been through 2 homes, 5 cars, 3 kids, awesome vacations, and several wards. We've gained friends and lost some..We've had lots of laughs and lots of times were he's held me while I cried. I can honestly say he is my best friend. I thank God every day that he chose ME to be his wife and the mother of his children. I am honored to be both and often feel unworthy of his love. We celebrated last week by going to the Melting Pot and Anniversary Inn (Sleeping Beauty's Castle-Rhear). I love you Stephen!!

My Testimony

So, I did not grow up in the typical lds family setting. My parent's were divorced when I was 5 months old, my brother committed suicide when I was 14. I think a lot of LDS kids get to base their testimony off of their parents and by the time they leave the nest, most of them are pretty strong. Correction, by the time they get married or go on a misson. I think a lot of us need to experience life first. ;) I'm not going to go into great detail but I did not get the chance to base my testimony off of my parents. I got married when I was 19 and had Katelyn when I was 21. I was attending a ward in Kuna when I had a freak out moment that I don't know if the church is true and I am going to be the foundation that my children base their testimonies off of. I realized that I hadn't felt the spirit in that particular ward at all and I began to worry. I went into talk to my bishop. Instead of getting the comfort and love and support that I needed, I got questioned about very personal things. And was told that the reason why I was questioning was because I was not living worthily. My bishop at the time was very inappropriate which made my questioning even worse. I talked to the stake president...yada yada yada. That's really not the point of this post. The point of this post is that even though I am in a fantastic ward with normal non exclusive women, my testimony still floundered. And that really bothered me. I am a very honest person and I felt as though I was living a lie by continuing to go to church. I would pray and didn't really feel good or bad towards the church just indifferent. I was told that I wasn't getting answers because I wasn't praying or reading enough and that I just needed to focus on the Book of Mormon. Which bothered me. I wanted to know the good, bad and the ugly about the church. I figured if it were true, then it didn't really matter what the internet said about it. I was angry during the time that I was searching for "answers". I found all sorts of information that was bad about the church and most of it was taken out of context. I have had several people I know leave the church and they try Christianity out for a while and then they start to research the Bible and then they come to the conclusion that there is no proof that is true either. That scared me, I wasn't wanting to go that far but I did tell Stephen that I wanted to go to a Christian church. I compromised that I would go to Sacrament with the family and then I'd venture off to "find myself, in my perfect church". I told him I'd take the missionary discussions, soley with the purpose of saying that I took the discussions and I still don't believe the church is true. Imagine my surprise when my plan failed. I had a woman come over from Ten Mile Christian. She is a lovely lady and wanted to talk to me about my religion. I got the impression after she left that she doesn't believe I am saved, and wanted to teach me about Christ and the BIBLE. I know about the Bible and Jesus Christ, thank you. Anywho, she was talking about her husband who passed and how they would not be married but they would be good friends. That just didn't sit well with me. There are a lot of things that I cannot begin to even comprehend about the LDS church but families being together forever is something I do believe in. I didn't understand the priesthood or temple's roll in this plan and just assumed we could all be together. I thought Christians believed that too, that's why I was so excited. But why would God put us together here as husband and wife, as families, only to break us up in the eternities? Doesn't make much sense to me. The other thing that didn't sit well with me was when I asked her about people that didn't get the chance to hear about Jesus. Since they believe you have to know him in order to be saved. She made a contorted face and said, "That's why we have to tell everyone we know about Jesus." Okay, there are a lot of people around the world in remote countries that probably will not get the opportunity to hear about Jesus, just because of chance. I don't think God would set his children up to fail that quickly. I had an energy session later that day and had more ah ha moments. Then later that night I met with the missionaries for the first time. Since then, we have met a couple of times and we are meeting later tonight. There is a new peace in our home. Less tension, except for my kids who seem to thrive on it. I feel good, I feel confident. I feel like I am headed in the right direction. When I was questioning people kept telling me that I couldn't let the people offend me. I have had several bad experiences with leaders of the church telling me false doctrine and that didn't offend me away. I was questioning serious things, things that cannot really be answered in this life. That's why I need to work on my testimony of the small things so that I can begin to have faith in the big things. So I am going to take it one day at a time. Here's what I do know...
Heavenly Father is real, he created us, he loves us, he wants us to return home to him.
I absolutely believe in Jesus Christ. I believe that he lived and died for us so that we can be saved by the power of the atonement to return home to our heavenly father.
I believe in the power of prayer and that it can work miracles.
I believe that we did live in a pre-existence.
I believe in heaven. I am still struggling with the 3 kingdoms and who goes where and why.
I believe that I will see my brother Josh again and it will be a sweet reunion.
I believe that Stephen and I were supposed to end up together because of personal revelation that I received.
I believe in being kind to people and not judging them. I think our heavenly father is going to be a lot easier on us than we are on ourselves or others.
Those things are what I can say for sure I have a testimony of. I don't even know if I am strong enough to say that I have faith in everything else in the LDS church. I can say that I have HOPE. I have hope that someday I can have faith in the things that I do not understand. The questions that I have really cannot be answered. There is no proof that the church is true. There is no proof that the bible is true. You just have to go off of what you feel and believe. I know that I feel good when I am at church. Someday I hope to get some type of conformation that for me it is good and true. I don't think the church is for everyone. I don't think everyone would be happy there. I don't want to raise my kids that the standard is baptism at 8, missions at 19, and temple marriage or bust. I want to teach them that we will love them no matter what they chose but we do want what's best for them. I will continue to ask for clarification if there is something I don't understand. I will continue to search for answers. I will continue my love affair with Diet coke and swear occasionally because it makes me feel cool. I know that I will never fit the perfect Mormon woman mold and I don't want to, I like being me. -Amen.

Overwhelmed...

I have been trying to do too much after this kid. I've been cleaning, grocery shopping, and working out all too soon. I have been prancing around with make up on my face feeling like I've got it all together. Maybe it's because I didn't get much sleep last night, or for the last 7 weeks, but I'm tired.

Holden was born with "Big Balls" as I'd like to say. We joke he's got Nicolaysen balls. We've had several doctors examine them and ensure us it's just fluid and it's called "hydro seal". Took him to a urologist and she thought it was a hernia and referred us to a surgeon. Saw the surgeon today and found out it is for sure a hernia (where some of his intestines dropped when his balls did) and kind of a bad one. Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow and shouldn't be a big deal but I'm still scared.

I have a Ford Five Hundred which I absolutely love. It is a great car, however I truly think we need a mini van. We have 2 booster seats and an infant carrier with it's base in the back seat. When you have to have your kids raise their arms so you can shut the door, you know it's time for a new car. It's going to be a long time before we can afford to get one though. With the new house and all the medical bills. Good hell. I had no idea babies had to do their own $500 deductible. We planned Holden's circumcision after Jan 1st so our deductible would be met for this year and found out he had one to meet between December 24th and Jan 1st also, so that's fun!

Breastfeeding this time around has been a joke. First mastitis, then thrush, then buying every damn cream or medicine the Dr's office suggests just so they don't have to see me. Was going to quit all together because it was taking 40 min and he was still hungry when I was done. Finally saw the doctor yesterday for my 6 week check up, he gave me the name of a supplement that will increase my milk supply. So here's to one more try at that.

Holden wakes me up every 2-3 hours and has been sleeping in our beds with us because he'll spit out his binki and I'm too tired to get up and put it in his mouth every time. I don't like kids in my bed, I don't sleep well. I get naps occasionally on the weekends, other than that, I'm up around 8. Good hell I'm tired.

We went from 1200 sq ft house to 2700. Gone are the days where it takes an hour to clean. I do love the space though and am grateful to have it. And it's so nice to clean a brand new home.

Terrible two's? No my friend, terrible 3's. My sweet loving Preston has turned into something fierce. He's always scowling and whining about something. Breaks my heart. We have come up with a reward system and hope it will improve.

Katelyn, Katelyn, Katelyn. Convinces kids at school to give her toys. Tells us she returns them when she does not. Keeps drawing on herself and her brother, even did it at school today. Told her Sunday school teachers that her mom and dad died and she lives with her grandparents. Should I be scared? :) Seriously though, I am not sure what to do with her and her lying.

I got a gym membership and started working out 4 weeks after Holden. I really do enjoy it. I have missed exercising. I love being able to get a break from the kids by sending them to the day care. That alone is worth it! I lost all of my baby weight by chance after 2 weeks, but for some gay reason I'm gaining weight now. And no it's not muscle. :) I bought some jeans while I was 9 months pregnant and they fit over my hips, had the baby and they still do not fit over my hips. I am ready to be fit instead of fat. I saw on Oprah that she didn't realize how bad her weight was until she saw a picture of herself. I had that moment last night and have been sad ever since. I am trying to eat healthier and hopefully working out and breast feeding will work. Oh and time. Can you tell I am not very patient with myself?

Thanks for letting me vent. I am kind of a nut job right now. Taking my frustrations out on people that don't deserve it, crying, and yelling at my kids to quit yelling. Go me.

Pregnancy Pics

So people keep giving me "compliments" on this pregnancy. Like, "You look so much better this time around than you did before." "Probably because your hair was so short and this time it's not." Or, "You're so cute, you must be due any day! No?" Gotta love it. Oh and shout out to the guy that tried to "pop" my stomach with his fork tonight at dinner. Nice one. I attempted to take some "sexy" shots with my friend. I realize I am wearing a dress with no sleeves, no g's were harmed in the making of these photos and no I do not dress like that everyday. And yes, fat people do look better in black and white. So there you go.

Stephen Preston

Our little Preston will be 3 tomorrow! He is getting so big and is still a little lover boy. He has a couple imaginary friends and loves to tell stories and play pretend with Katelyn. For Halloween he is going to be a cowboy with his horse, whom he named Ick. He is so excited to have a baby brother who he insists we name "Baby Brother." We have discovered he is a bit shy, when singing Happy Birthday to him at his party, he ran into the corner to hid. He also loves the ladies, and smiles when he sees a cute one. We love him so much! Happy Birthday Buddy!!

Katelyn Riley

These are just some of my favorite photos of Katelyn. We were in the middle of moving when her birthday happened and I didn't really get to do a post for her. I just want her to know how much we love and adore her and how we are so grateful she is in our family. She absolutely loves kindergarten and is getting smarter every day. She is a sassy frass which we are trying to cure with spankings, time out, and love. Happy 5th birthday (in August) Katelyn! We love you!

We've Moved!

A pantry. Yes I am taking a picture because this is the first pantry I've had in my 7 years of marriage.
Preston's huge closet. Katelyn, Preston, and the office have huge walk in closets, so nice!
Master Closet
Babies room, yet to be decorated, yet to be named. Oh by the way blogging world, we are having another boy!
Preston's room. It's huge.
Katelyn's room, there is a window seat but I couldn't get a good view.
Stephen's office that I get to occasionally use. :)
Kitchen
Dining Room
Master Bedroom, our bed and night stand used to be a light wood color but we recently painted them black and I LOVE them!
Master Bath
Living Room
Back Yard
Front of house
We've been wanting to move for a while but were set on the fact that it was never going to happen, so we bought bunk beds for the kids and were content in our little home. Then we found out we could rent out our home and qualify to buy another one! So at the beginning of July we started really looking and getting all of our "affairs" in order. We found the home we liked mid July, made an offer, had it accepted....yada yada yada... we moved! We are living in Meridian now and we absolutely love it. It's still close to Stephen's work and close to family. Oh and now I don't have to drive an hour to go grocery shopping! We had some stressful times because the lender told us at anytime it could fall through so not to pack and not to tell anyone. Our closing was delayed, we got to go to LA and came back and closed that day on our new house. Katelyn's birthday and party shortly followed, and then Katelyn started kindergarten. We are all moved in and loving life. It's very nice to have things slow down and get back to normal. And we had our 7 year anniversary thrown in there too!
